To concentrate while working and prevent distractions from external noises, I found that a nice way to do it is listening to background music. So I prepared a web tool with a selection of looping tracks, in the spirit of some popular "low-fi" radio channels to relax/study to.

To select the music tracks I follow the criteria below:

• No spoken lyrics.
  • A research in UK found background speech distracts about 48% of office workers.
• Melodies that are neither unpleasant nor extremelly enjoyable.
  • A research in Taiwan found music strongly liked or disliked can cause distraction.
• Songs with a stable tempo
  • Some studies (Canada, US) suggest that a unified mood (as in baroque music) is positive for concentration.
• The music track should loop seamlessly
  • Listen uninterruptedly would prevent distractions too.
• Public domain / Openly licensed
  • It should be freely redistributable and allow me to make any tweaks that might constitute derivative work.
